The Jewish Federation Connecting with Community will screen the film Woman in Gold.  As a follow-up to the film The Rape of Europa, this film is based on the true story of Maria Altmann, an elderly Jewish refugee living in Los Angeles, who, together with her young lawyer, Randy Schoenberg, fought the government of Austria for almost a decade to reclaim Gustav Klimt's iconic painting of her aunt, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, which was stolen from her relatives by the Nazis in Vienna just prior to WWII.

Altmann took her legal battle all the way to the Supreme Court of the US, which ruled on the case Republic of Austria v Altmann (2004).  Join us as we see how these films effected artistic and cultural outcomes for Jewish Families and beyond.

Film will begin at 10:45, break for lunch at noon, and continue at 12:45 for the final 49 minutes.

This free program is part of the Federation’s Connecting With Community Series and will be followed by a kosher hot lunch. Lunch is a $2 suggested donation for adults over 60 years of age or $7 for all others. Advance reservations are required for lunch and can be made by calling (413) 442-2200 before 9 a.m. on the day of the program.
