The Jewish Federation Connecting with Community series welcomes Dennis Powell, president of the Berkshire County Unit of the NAACP.  He will be presenting "NAACP is not an ANACHRONISM", a Black History Month exploration of this venerable institution's history and work in the present day.

Founded on February 12, 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest, largest, and most widely recognized grassroots-based civil rights organization.  The NAACP's more than half-million members and supporters throughout the US and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities, campaigning for equal opportunity and conducting voter mobilization.  Dennis Powell will share the story of its founders.

Dennis Powell is a long time community activist, who has been president of the local NAACP chapter since 2015.  He retired from a career as an executive chef, culinary educator, consultant to food service and hospitality industry.

This free program is part of the Federation’s Connecting With Community Series and will be followed by a kosher hot lunch. Lunch is a $2 suggested donation for adults over 60 years of age or $7 for all others. Advance reservations are required for lunch and can be made by calling (413) 442-2200 before 9 a.m. on the day of the program.
