In honor of Yom Ha'atzmaut - the 67th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel - the Jewish Federation will host Rabbi Jan Kaufman as she explores some primary foundational documents of the Zionist State.

Rabbi Kaufman will begin by discussing the importance of the first Zionist Congress in Basel in 1897, and then talk about Theodor Herzl's manifesto from Alteneuland, Louis Brandeis' articulation of Zionism, the 1916 Sykes-Picot Agreement between France and England, the Balfour Declaration, the Churchill White paper, the 1947 Partition Plan, and the Declaration of the State of Israel pronounced by David Ben-Gurion on the first Yom Ha'atzmaut.

Rabbi Kaufman recently retired from a 34 year career in the rabbinate having served for the past almost two decades as the Director of Special Projects for the Rabbinical Assembly. Cost $3.
