Join us for the second of two standalone talks on the creation of Jewish-American Culture.  Part One (Jan. 7) covered the period from the 18th century to the early 20th century, beginning with Spanish synagogue architecture and the transitioning to early American art. Part Two (Jan. 28) covers the period after World War II.

This Jewish Art Education program led by Peter Margolis begins with the richness of the Jewish community in Spain before they were expelled in 1492. The program continues with the arrival of the first Jews in America in the mid-17th c. and the establishment of the first synagogue. A survey of artists of the 18th through 21st c., including silversmiths, sculptors, painters, photographers, and architects, follows. Each session introduces artists in the New World whose artworks are specific to time, place, and personal experience.

Peter Margolis has a doctorate in Digital Judaism and teaches, lectures, and publishes on Jewish history and religion.
