The Jewish Federation Connecting with Community presents "Bimuelos and Keftes and Gelt, Oh My!  Chanukah Foods From Around the World" with Carol Goodman Kaufman.

Carol will discuss the history behind the two major culinary traditions of Chanukah, foods fried in oil and dairy dishes, and the different ways that Jews from around the world have interpreted those traditions.

From Persia to Greece to Spain to Warsaw to Havana, the variety is as dizzying as a dreidel spin.

Carol developed a freelance writing career based on her love of travel, food, and gardening.  "I love food and I love to travel, so I write articles about both, as well as for my own blog, A Moveable Feast. As much as I love to putter in the kitchen, preparing everything from appetizers to desserts — and then eating them — I also have a particular obsession with learning about food history. My ongoing quest is finding out how foods traveled from their places of origin to dinner plates around the globe."

Carol received my Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology from the Colorado State University.

This free program is part of the Federation’s Connecting With Community Series and will be followed by a kosher hot lunch. Lunch is a $2 suggested donation for adults over 60 years of age or $7 for all others. Advance reservations are required for lunch and can be made by calling (413) 442-2200 before 9 a.m. on the day of the program.
