The Jewish Federation Connecting with Community will screen the film "Beneath the Helmet." The film follows five young Israeli high school graduates who enter the Israeli Army.  At age 18, away from their homes, families, and friends, these young individuals undergo a demanding journey.

From the creators of the PBS-featured documentary film "Israel Inside: How a Small Nation Makes a Big Difference," "Beneath the Helmet" illustrates how these young men and women are protecting not only their homes, but shared values of peace, equality, opportunity, democracy, religious tolerance, and women's rights.  The lessons they learn along the way can be adapted, understood and appreciated by everyone.

Ethel Kramer will be speaking about Volunteers for Israel (VFI) and Sar El, a non-profit service organization.

The film is 80 minutes in duration and will begin at 10:45, break for lunch, and finish after lunch.

This free program is part of the Federation’s Connecting With Community Series and will be followed by a kosher hot lunch. Lunch is a $2 suggested donation for adults over 60 years of age or $7 for all others. Advance reservations are required for lunch and can be made by calling (413) 442-2200 before 9 a.m. on the day of the program.
