The Jewish Federation Connecting with Community program presents "A Bintel Brief: A Staged Reading." with excerpts from "A Bintel Brief: Sixty Years of Letters from the Lower East Side to the Jewish Daily Forward."
During the 80 years of this daily feature, tens of thousands of letters had been printed. Many of them mirrored not only the varied problems of Jewish immigrant life in America, but also the earth-shaking and catastrophic world events of that period. Many letter writers developed close ties to the newspaper, as well as the editor of Bintel Brief.
The readers for this program will include Lara Denmark, Ann Krawet, Cantor Amy O. Miller, Louise Harubin Penney, Steve Rosenthal, Herman Rotenberg, Alexandra Warshaw, Roman Rosenblyum and producer, Myrna Hammerling.
This free program is part of the Federation’s Connecting With Community Series and will be followed by a kosher hot lunch. Lunch is a $2 suggested donation for adults over 60 years of age or $7 for all others. Advance reservations are required for lunch and can be made by calling (413) 442-2200 before 9 a.m. on the day of the program.
