In 2019, American Jews will mark the 200th birthday of Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise, the founder of the American Reform Movement. Rabbi Wise acted with abundant energy, passion, and willpower, much of which can still be seen in the dynamism of contemporary Reform Jewish life. This milestone makes it a perfect time to return to our roots.

This course explores the elements that make American Reform Judaism distinct and vibrant. With Rabbis Hirsch and Gordon, you’ll study the fundamental principles that make us Reform Jews. Using a new curriculum released by the Reform Movement, we’ll study text and learn via video lecture with many of the leading Jewish thinkers in America today, exploring our history, our theology, the development of our prayer, and our mission in this world. Most significantly, this course is a mirror at which we can examine our own personal practices and beliefs.

If you want to learn more about Reform Judaism, this course is for you. If you want to explore your own beliefs and practices, so that you can be more present in the High Holy Days, this course is for you.
